Dozens of actively burning fires (red dots) were detected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on October 13, 2003, across the Kimberly Plateau in northern Australia. Smoke blurs the landscape beneath, but some dark brown burns scars are still visible in some areas.
