A straight line of fires (marked with red dots) in Australia’s ?Top End? is probably the result of aerial burning, where prescribed fires are set using incendiaries dropped from aircraft. Scattered fires are spread throughout the region in this true-color Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image from the Aqua satellite on June 19, 2003.
The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
