CYCLONE BILLY
Tropical Cyclone Billy made landfall in Western Australia in late December 2008. The storm was expected to bring heavy rainfall and local flooding to parts of the Kimberley Coast.

RARE SNOW IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST
An unusually heavy snow storm blanketed Oregon’s Willamette Valley and much of the surrounding region, including the Portland metropolitan area during the 2008 holiday season. Snowfall that began December 14th continued over a week later, piling up nearly a foot of snow and approaching the all-time records for the region.

PLUME FROM SOUFRIERE HILLS VOLCANO
The Soufriere Hills Volcano on the Caribbean island of Montserrat released a plume of ash and/or steam in late November 2008. The volcano remained active in the weeks that followed.
