Fires in Thailand

Fires in Thailand

On March 1, 2016, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite acquired this image of smoke from fires burning in Thailand. Red outlines indicate hot spots where MODIS detected unusually warm surface temperatures associated with the fires.

Two prominent smoke plumes stem from fires in Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary and in Khao Yai National Park. Both areas are UNESCO World Heritage sites.
